Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Q - What is AES?
A – AES is a low cost contingency insurance and EDI back-up service offered by AdvanceFirst Technologies Ltd.
Q – What is included in my £100 annual subscription to AES?
A – Registration for the AES Emergency EDI retrieval process
- One free AMMX secure file transfer client downloaded from www.ammxtech.com
- Invitations for FOC attendance at AdvanceFirst Technical Education Days
- Regular EDI Technology updates via AdvanceFirst’s eshot capability.
- Annual EDI audit/review with an AdvanceFirst consultant (when required)
Q – How much does it cost if I use the AES Emergency retrieval process?
A - In addition to the £100 annual subscription, if the emergency EDI retrieval process is invoked their will be a charge of £100 per day for as long as the service is required. The only possible additional charge would be if your documents needed to be couriered to your business. This courier charge would be charged to the recipient company.
Q – How is the price so low?
A - The AES service was priced in this way to give users a very low annual subscription and charge a small amount more only if the EDI retrieval process is invoked. This we hope will encourage companies to subscribe to the service.
Q – What if my EDI system is down and unable to import data whether it be from the EDI VAN or from the AES retrieval process?
A – As part of the AES Emergency retrieval process we are able to undertake some basic transformation of the raw EDI data and send it to you via the most appropriate route in a human readable form. This data can be printed, read and re-keyed into your system as required.
Q – Will it be compulsory to attend technical education days or to have an annual EDI review?
A – No they are optional and entirely under your control, but we hope they would be of benefit to your business if taken up. We will try to be flexible about the timings of both but you will still have the options to refuse.
Q – What is an AMMX secure file transfer client?
A – AMMX technology is owned and operated by AdvanceFirst and is designed to be the next generation EDI replacement technology. If AMMX is compared with EDI VAN technology, AMMX is: -
- More secure (digital signatures, SSL connections, high level encryption etc)
- More auditable (full application to application, end to end audit)
- Easier to use (no training required, can be rolled out to communities easily)
- Easier to implement (one 10 min client download from www.ammxtech.com)
- Very low cost/no cost (to some)

Q – What are the Technical Education Days about?
A – To date AdvanceFirst have had three technical education days for clients all of which have been fully attended and considered valuable by our clients. It is our intention to do more of these and to hopefully expand the subjects covered. The current subject covered is “EDI/XML Mapping”
